I understand your pain. Its all about standing up for yourself. Like high schoolers, its like giving in to peer pressure, but on yourself.

I have been addicted to many things and cigarettes were the worst. If you're a cold-turkey kind of person, try that and see how it goes. If not, bum when you are drinking alcohol ONLY (social smoker) and limit yourself to only 1 or 2 per social-smoking nites.

Here is how I did it:
1. Do NOT buy a pack of smokes. If you have them, you will smoke them. Bumming from friends and strangers constantly gets old quickly and they will eventually be annoyed.

2. Don't even think about it. The more you think about it, the more you want one. When you think of smoking one, think about how your throat feels right then, think about gross crap like mucus and phlegm and tar... ew.

3. My boyfriend helped. He quit smoking and stayed strong while the rest of us continued. Every time I would smoke he would be very, very, very upset. He is worth more to me than smoking cigarettes.

4. Buy lots of gum.

5. When you quit, realize that it will take a long, long, long time to not want one... but even then, even my 80 year old grandmother still has dreams about wanting cigarettes and she quit 20 years ago.

6. When you do quit, you will feel ill, you will feel tired and down and cranky and pissed off and crazy. This will pass. Do not give in!

7. This next one is entirely dependent on your personality.... if you like the social habit part of things, partake in the social habit part. If it is too difficult for you to stay social without wanting to bum, then don't partake. You may lose friends over it, but what kind of friends are those?

8. Sooner or later you won't feel like the only one not smoking... my group of friends quit one by one... and the last one standing outside smoking felt very alone.

You can do it! You can do anything.... trust yourself.

That first responder was obviously high while writing his response....

Anyways, what helped or worked for me was smoking cheaper smokes that taste real bad. I could only handle to light it and then put it out. Averaging about 1-2 smokes per day. It was a re-light festival until I finally decided I just didn't want it anymore. That was after 24 years of smoking and a whole lot more per day than you too so you may see quicker results. A whole lot of it is mind set too. Good Luck

I tried to stop smoking over and over again before finally finding a method to quit smoking that actually worked long term.
The best way to stop smoking is to completely change your location for one week. This can be timed to go along with a vacation or you can specifically plan to be out of town or away from home for a week in order to stop smoking. The change of scenery and routine completely changes your cravings, which are largely habit based. Without your same daily routine, your craving for cigarettes will be interrupted.

You must get through the first day. You will probably not feel the craving for cigarettes the first day because of the upheaval of your routine. To help this along, try to make your routine for the week as different from your normal day as possible. Get up at a completely different time, eat your meals at different times than you normally would and change your bedtime for he week.

Stay busy all day and the third day will soon be over.

After a week away, the nicotine will be out of your system and you will feel better than you have in a long time. Going home again can be stressful because you may fear that you will fall into your own patterns, In order to keep this from happening, make a new routine at home to keep you from craving a cigarette. This can mean changing which rooms you spend time in or taking a walk after dinner instead of lighting up. With a new routine, you won't miss smoking as much. The air will smell sweeter and your food will taste better.

First thing is give yourself some self confidence to quit the smoking. After that you should know what are the problem when smoking and advantages of quitting smoking, then say the way. Some easy way is to use whenever willing to smoke means chewing gum, and tablet is available it gives the effect of smoking. Take herbal anti smoking products. When mind is ask to smoke, take small pencil and imagine that it is cigarrette and smoke it. Definitely you will stop the smoking habit.

It is normal, just hold out because you will feel so much better when you get past it. It has been a year for me, and even though I still think about smoking, now it is a feeling of pride that I was able to quit! Try to exercise, even if it is just walking it will give you more energy and help you stay committed. I hope you make it!!!

I smoked for 15 years. I had tried quitting many times, but the withdrawl symptoms were so bad that I started back again. I truely believe the tobacco companys are putting more and more nicotene in cigarettes to make us more addicted.
If you really want to quit this is what works. First go to your doctor and have hime prescribe Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is a anti-depressant but they have also found that it helps to quit smoking. If you do not have a drug card or cannot afford the medication either look up Walmarts website that list the medications that they offer for $4.00 or ask your doctor if he has samples or can get them for you. A lot of doctors have samples they can give to you. When you think about how much you pay for cigarettes the cost of the medication is nothing. I took the Wellbutrin for about 2 months before quiting smoking and less than a month afterwards. When you are feeling confident about quitting find a hypnotist. Either find one who others have recommended or check on the internet to see when a hypnotist is coming to your city and is going to do a group hypnosis for quitting smoking. The one I went to was at the Holiday Inn and they had about 100 people there. I was very unsure with that many people there that it would work for me, but it did!!!! You should actually start looking into finding a group hypnosis or a private one now so you can coodinate the Wellbutrin and hypnotist so you have your quit day in mind . The wellbutrin must be taken first.
I quit 5 years ago. I am completely shocked to this day that I have not had a cigarette, craved one, or thought about it.
The night I got hypnotized the hypnotist told us toward the end of the session to go outside and smoke our last cigarette and then throw our pack out. I was so happy to get one last one that i smoked two in like 5 minutes. I gave a lot away also because some people had already thrown theirs away before the meeting. After the session it was about 11:30 pm . I drove home feelin pretty good but unsure if my brain had obeyed the commands given to it. I went to sleep when I got hame. The next day I keep thinking' where are my cigarettes?' Then I would tell myself' Oh yeah I quit. ' That was all that I felt or thought about on the first day. I did not crave one. The second day I did not even wonder where my cigs were. I swear this is the truth. I did not miss or want them at all. I had no withdrawl symptoms what so ever. It was a true miricle. It was even out of my mind. The only thing I felt or thought was WOW, this is so good that it's crazy. I have talked to people who did hypnosis by itself that worked for a month or a year , but ended up unsuccessful {( I even did hypnosis many years before , but craved them every day , cried for a month and after a year of torture I stated back up while drinking a glass of wine while with a friend who was smoking. I can drink a glass or two of wine and still dont think about it, however I am truely a reformed smoker because the hypnotist told us that we would be physically sick if we are around smoke and my brain was definately listening. If I am in a car that has stale smoke smell my who body tenses up and I am in pain. I have an allergic reaction and my body physically hurts.
The combination of using the two together is a winner answer. I know you can do it!!!! If I could do it than anyone can.
Good luck . If you try this maybe you can go to my 360 page and leave me a comment on how it's working for you. You can quit I know you can!!!! :)

I quit cold turkey over 20 years ago. I did gain some weight initially but with careful eating and exercise it came off easily. There is a temptation to smoke when you are stressed. What helped me is to just take a couple of deep breaths instead of giving into the temptation. Good luck - your lungs will thank you for it!!
