So, you’ve finally come around to the thoughts that giving up smoking is something that you really want to do.  Are you sure?  I mean if you are like many, you may find giving up the nicotine addiction pretty tough.  So, you are going to have to really have your mind set that it is something that YOU want.  You need to have your reasons….YOUR reasons…YOUR motivation.  It is usually not good enough that someone else wants you to quit unless they can help you find your motivation.

I’ve seen many people struggle with quitting smoking, some that made it, and some that didn’t and died way too young from various health complications.

For those that want to have the best chance at success in their endeavor to quit smoking it is best to envision your life without smoking, I mean really envision in in all the positive ways it will change your life.

There are many reasons to quit smoking that range from the health benefits of yourself, your partner, your kids (if you have any), and the cleanliness of your home and car  (you know, the butts, ashes, burnt spots, smoke stains).  Then there are the social costs… as you know smoking is getting more and more frowned upon by employers, the government, etc.

Oh yes, and lets not forget some of your financial costs, not just the money spent on those never ending packs of cigarettes, but also the health $ costs…higher insurance premiums and getting sick more often.  You get the picture; there frankly are just  too many reasons to quit and too many benefits to be gained to put it off.

But, again you have to focus in on what YOUR reasons are for you to have the best chance of quitting the smoking addiction.  I encourage you to pull out a pad and pen and start your own list as to what is most important to you, to watch the video mentioned earlier, or select and read one of the great books,  on how to quit smoking.

Once you decide that it is time for you to stop smoking it is good to have an idea of what your body will likely go through as you enter withdrawal.  Their are both the psycological hurdles as well as the the physical ones.  Understanding these will give you a leg up on what’s happening.  I would suggest reading further on the topic of withdrawal before you take the plunge to quit.  Understand as best you can the various ways that smoking has hooked itself into your life so that you can pry each of those tentacles loose.

Then comes the choice of which method or methods to choose to have the most chance of success.  Knowing yourself will help alot.  For example, if you are prone to suggestion may mean that hypnosis to stop smoking would be a good choice to consider.  Also, be aware that different methods cost different amounts of cash.  Yes, nothing is free in life and unless you can quit cold turkey, quitting smoking isn’t going to be either, so look at what the cost is going to be for attempting things like acupuncture, hypnosis, self hypnosis cd’s, the nicotine patch, or for that matter any of the methods.  Whatever the up front cost though, what you end up saving in just the cost of the cigarettes alone will likely pay for itself in a relatively short period of time.
